Kid Safe Web Browser and Internet Filter: Download and Install the KidRocket Web Browser For Free
posted December 18, 2008 - 1:48amThe KidRocket Web Browser gives your child limited access to the internet allowing only approved, safe websites and blocking out further internet links. Just launch the browser enter your password and your computer is safe for your child to use.
Although the content is limited, there is plenty to keep a child amused and great for teaching them computer and internet browsing skills. The current approved sites are, KidRocket (KidSafe Version), PBS Kids - pbskids.com, Hotwheels - hotwheels.com, Crayola - crayola.com, Cartoon Network - cartoonnetwork.com, Starfall - starfall.com, Sesame Street - sesamestreet.com, Nickelodeon - nick.com, TVOKids - tvokids.com, SFS Kids - sfskids.com, BBC Cbeebies - bbc.co.uk/cbeebies, Barbie - barbie.com, and Disney - disney.com.
There are also a math quiz function (the level of difficulty can be set in the parental admin area), a couple of cool art tools, online jigsaw puzzles and flash games such as Pacman, Space Invaders, nBlox, Asteroids, Simon and more; even an email function with Art/eCard attachments.
The only drawback I see to this browser is that I do not see any way for parents to add trusted sites or pages to the browsers approved website list, otherwise it looks like a great free download for parents to help protect the kids from inappropriate content on the internet.
Remember, as KidRocket reminds us on their website; "While we have eliminated all known escape paths to the internet while locked in this browser, nothing replaces parental supervision."
If you have small children who are learning about computers and to explore the internet, why not consider getting them a great gift with a One Laptop per Child XO Laptop and the Give a Laptop, Get a Laptop program helps supply laptops for education to children around the world.
