Knives from SOG: What Could Happen When Knives Are Not Created by Committee

SOG Knives is a fairly young company in the knife-making industry since they have only been in business for twenty or so years. Even So, their short-lived, yet productive, past has guided them to turn out to be one of the most progressive knife-making companies in business today.

History of the Company

The tale of the SOG Knives Company begins 20 years before it was formed. At some point in the Vietnam era, a select United States military faction with an awkward alias went searching for a different knife. Called the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (or MACV-SOG for short), this team designed and authorized the making of an "untraceable knife". The blade needed to be rugged enough to survive the harsh environments of Vietnam, and still needed to be plain and vague enough in order to be unnoticed concerning its maker and nation of origin. Thus, the SOG Knife was created.

Spencer and Gloria Frazer applied this "untraceable" design for their motivation when they formed a brand new utility knife company 20 years later in 1986. From then on, SOG has been renowned for making top-notch knife products.

Naturally, SOG Knives has a lot more to it than just a name. Founder and Chief Designer Spencer Frazer is a true jack-of-all-trades, having been employed as an sound engineer, a toy designer and an artist. When he finally was able to start creating knives, his diverse history let him to bring fresh outlooks to a longstanding trade. His designs have been progressive and creative, earning SOG a reputation as a real ground-breaker.

The Knives Themselves

SOG is likely best known for its line of Navy Seal blades. These include the Seal Team, the Seal Pup and "Elite" models of each. SOG also manufactures a successful lineup of folding blades which include the best-selling "Twitch" and "Flash". SOG also features multi-tools such as the "Paratool" and the "Powerlock".

Recently, SOG has started manufacturing a futuristic lineup of blades that they call "Fusion." Models such as the "Spirit," "Muscle Car," and "Contractor" each utilize this advanced technology.
