The Knock
The Knock
Did you hear that knock at your door?
I think you did. C'mon answer it.
Go ahead - its only me. You're not afraid of me, are you? You shouldn't be. I spent alot of time on this. I'm waiting.
Look I have a package under my arm just for you. Everyone likes packages. You love deliveries. You know you want to see what it is and who its from. It's something special; I'll tell you that.
I wrapped it myself. Just for you. You know its your favorite paper and your favorite color.
Are you going to make me knock again? Please don't. I get awfully impatient. We can't have anybody see me now can we? So please hurry.
See my uniform? Doesn't that inspire trust? It should. I spent a long time making it. I think it looks pretty good. Good enough anyway. Everyone else trusted it.
And my nametag. Can't you see I'm wearing a nametag? You can always trust a guy with a nametag, can't you? It's not my name but does that matter?
If you look really hard you can see my truck parked in the street. It looks real doesn't it?
And I even put a phone number on the side. Would a bad guy put a phone number on his truck? Any look at that smiley face. Everyone trusts a smiley face, right?
There're only magnets. I'll pull them off as soon as we are done. I don't think you'll mind.
Please answer the door. I've waited a long time for this. I don't have much more time. Do you know how long I've been watching you; getting your schedule down?
I know you're home. I've looked at my notes. There's no one with you, is there? I think I can hear your footsteps. Hurry up.
I promise I won't be long. I've gotten faster. Now it takes me all of about 5 minutes to finish. That's fast right? I think it is. Maybe I can be faster today.
C'mon please hurry. There's not much time left.
I can see the light change in the peep hole. I know you are watching me. I'm just a delivery man. Look at my smile.
No, sorry, I can't leave the package. You have to sign. That's the story anyway. It always works.
And I'll just need to step inside. I'll tell you I'll wait for you to go put my package down. But I won't. I'll just step inside and shut the door. I'll wait for you just inside the door as to not alarm you.
Ah, I hear the deadbolt turn. Any second now. You'll be so surprised.

Myth
Your killin' me! Absolutely killin' me.
Little background
This is actually a take-off of a theme I wrote a long time ago in college. That one - which was more similiar to The Night post - was written during the murders in Gainesville by Danny Rolling. Basically, he was targeting young female students. I was going to school at UF and also working in the Police Department. Trust me when I say, in the beginning they had no idea what the hell was going on or had any idea who was behind them. There was no sign at any of the scenes of forced entry, he was "cleaning" the scenes (in a very bad way)and the murders grew everyday. To make matters worse Rolling liked to pose the victims for maximum effect. While I never saw a crime scene I knew some officers that did and their descriptions and the way it affected them will never leave me. Very scary time. Other than working a ton of hours it really didn't affect me until he killed a guy then it really hit home - this guy was going to kill any and everything in his way. I had a lot of sleepless nights during that 3 or 4 weeks. Anyway, a delivery man was one of police theories - creepy, huh?
Thanks for the comment :)
The Bad Guys Seem to Be Nearing Redemption These Days, MiaNorth.
Like the latest Joker (in The Dark Knight) or Lex Luthor in a few of the latest Justice League Unlimited cartoons (so I watch a few late-night cartoons ...), they're beginning to start with reasons other than 'because I'm evil' or 'because I'm from "the devil"' etc.
---although a lot of producers make it easier by mentioning that 'the good guys' aren't so pristine (again, one of BATMAN's main selling-points was that he was a 'denizen of the dark;' HANCOCK was practically a thug! BLADE, vampire; HELLBOY, demon; etc.)

@mamamia07--See? The Power of Positive Thinking
Granted, it wouldn't be as effective if those stories ~usually~ turned out that way (as they do in real life).
But who knows? Maybe that level of positivity would make the negative imaginings even scarier and even more-surprising!

She invites him in and offers him a cup of tea. He is surprised. This has never happened before. But he enters and sits at her kitchen table. Watches her make the tea. She sets it in front of him. He takes a sip. Watches her as she picks up the knife from the kitchen counter. Watches her as walks slowly towards him. Watches her as she lifts the knife. Watches her. Powerless. The tea. Oh the tea.
Ha!
Very funny! But a good twist none the less.:)

The man is now not only paralyzed, but joyful in his paralysis. "This is a fine silk," he thinks as the lady sets her earrings on the coffee-table and picks up a letter-opener. "The pick doesn't match my uniform, but I've never had a problem with 'clothes not matching' before."
Little did he know that her husband, the wardrobe-consultant, was on his way home and that--when he got home--there would be 'the devil to pay' for disobeying the gods of standard matching.

great twist ending champagnedreams
I loved how she asked him in.
Here is a twist on your twist.
She asked him in, and asks him if he would like a drink of tea. He looked so cute and innocent.
This hasn't happened before, this isn't how it was suppose to go down. He follows her into the kitchen. She motions him to a chair as she pours a cup of tea and a little cream.
"One lump or two" she asks.
"No sugar thank you", he says, "Makes me jittery."
"No problem. tastes great kind of like almonds or something." he tells her and then everything goes black as he slumps over the table.
The woman rubs her hands together. "My you are a big fellow" she says as she grabs him around the back and crosses her arms around the front to get a better hold to drag him out. "You'll make my peonies bloom nice this year."
I admit, I do have a dark side. By the way the almond taste was arsonic. Our ground water had it in it one year. Everyone got sick but me. I'm immune. Cool huh.
