Know a lot about computers? Be a "geek on call"
posted January 14, 2009 - 4:52amIf you are a techie and you know a lot about upgrades, home networking, virus and spyware removal, Data recovery and backup and all these stuff, you might consider having a franchise of "geek on call".
The franchise fee might be a bit steep but the best is that you would we working with their centralized, nationwide customer dispatch system. You get the benefit of an existing and proven infrastructure, and get training on all the aspects of running your business. They would even be available to help you with technical stuff if you don't know how to solve a certain problem.
Alternatively, you can start on your own and just do everything yourself. It won't cost you a large franchise fee but you don't get some of the benefits of being part of 'geek on call'.
If you would start on your own however, you will need to invest heavily on local advertising and letting the people know who you are and what you do. If they don't know you exist, they won't call you, and you won't get anywhere.
