KTO to open branch in India
posted November 9, 2006 - 12:04pmKorea Tourism Organisation (KTO) is planning to open its tourism office in New Delhi by late 2007 or early 2008. It is currently working out details with related agencies for this.
There was nine per cent year-on-year increase of Indian tourist to Korea, in 2005 about 60000 Indians visited Korea, of which 60 per cent came on business trip. KTO is currently developing packages, which will include multiple locations, including Korea and neighboring countries
Interacting with reporter, Jean Sei Kim, director of Asia and Oceania Team, said "We held road shows in New Delhi and Mumbai in April this year as the first step in marketing. The road show that opened with the release of the film Gangster, filmed in Korea, attracted particular attention. Nami Island, Chunggye Stream, Myungdong, Insadong and other locations
where the movie was filmed are popular tourist sites."
Korea is focusing on encouraging major companies to send their employees on incentive tours to Korea as well as attracting families from the upper class for pleasure. Our current budget for India is approximately US $2, 00,000 per annum, which will be increased in 2007, Kim added.
"Indian travellers have shown a great deal of interest in
Korea's state-of-the-art IT-related facilities and theme parks such as Everland and Lotte World. Seoul is the favored destination among Indian tourists but Jejudo Island and the southeastern coastal city of Busan are gradually becoming more popular", according to Rajeev Nangia of Trac,
Korean representative in India.
