The Last Kiss Good Bye
posted July 28, 2009 - 5:13pmTheir last kiss really was goodbye kiss. He was leaving on a business
trip and she had come to see him off. He was always busy with something
and going somewhere. But that didn't bother her anymore... well, at
least that’s what she told everybody.
It had been
seven months
since their break up. For others it was hard to tell the difference,
but they knew and she felt it. She was always hoping they would get
back together soon. They had after all had fights and broken up before,
but this was the longest they had been separated for. Somewhere in her
heart she knew, what would eventually be a professing reality, that
this was permanent. This time they had separated for good.
Then
she saw him, a black bag slung on his shoulder walking briskly and
smiling at her, aware that he was late again. He knew very well that
she hated waiting, but he always like her wait for him. In a sad way it
reminded him that he was still awaited for. Besides, he knew, secretly
she liked waiting for him. The whole anticipation hysteria always
turned her on. And she always looked particularly beautiful when she
was waiting for him and the smile that broke out on her face when she
finally saw him was all worth the aggression that followed the small
peck on the cheek.
He missed all that and her. They were seeing
less and less of each other as they put more and more days between
their break-up. But this he had to do and she would someday understand
and then maybe that 'someday' he could make things right for them.
Of course there would be a someday. This wasn't permanent.
Then came the smile, then the peck and then the line he had heard so often, "This is the last time I'm waiting for you"
"You look beautiful." She always did, and now even more with that blush on her cheek like hot amber on snow.
"You call me when you get there, every single day, ok?"
"I'll try."
"...And eat well and don't flirt with the airhostess."<
"I will...I won’t."
"...And don’t forget to buy me something nice."
"I'm not sure I'll have time to go shop."
"You have to..."
"Ok, I'll try to...what do you want?"
"I dunno...you come back safe."
"I'll miss you."
"Not as much as I will."
"Goodbye"
"Bye bye"
"I love you"
"I love you...still do."
"I know."
And
then it happened, like magic. They were holding each other like they
hadn't in a long time. Everything surceased. It felt electric and the
feeling was mutual. The time stood still. It was a moment, it felt like
eternity.
But it lasted long enough for the announcer to
declare his flight was ready to take off. She smile back at his boyish
grin she so adored. He hugged her again, picked up his bag and left
another little peck. He walked towards the departure and she looked at
him with all the love in her heart. There were butterflies in her
stomach. He turned around and smile, she smiled back.
He waved at her one last time as he walked out that gate and out of her life, forever.
