Lawn Care Tips For November

By November, most folks are tired of mowing their lawns and are glad to be putting away the lawn mower and weed eater for the season. Lawn care is not exactly over when November rolls around, not if you want to have a beautiful healthy lawn next season.
If you have cool season grasses in your landscape, November is one of the prime months to apply fertilize. A November application of lawn fertilize will promote grass root development without promoting excessive top growth. A strong root system for your grass is essential for keeping your lawn healthy during the summer's heat and drought conditions.
If you have any small, low lying spots in your lawn, November is the month to fix those spots and bring them to an equal level with the rest of your lawn. To fix these low lying
spots in your lawn, you will need some top soil and a large flat-bladed shovel or spade.
You will need to carefully remove the turf from the low spot by inserting the shovel or spade vertically two inches deep all around the perimeter of the low spot to cut through the grass. Next, angle the shovel or spade and insert it under the grass to the depth of two inches to cut the grass roots free. Remove the grass from the location and lay it to side. Try to remove grass in slices the same size as the shovel or spade head and try to keep all the soil intact with the grass roots. Put some of the top soil into the low spot, enough to make it even with the surrounding soil, then place your grass on top of the soil.
Firm the grass into the soil and water it in. Keep these areas well watered for a few weeks until the grass has re-established it's root system into the new top soil.
This method for raising low spots in your lawn will work for sod or seeded grasses.
