Learning the Value of Tact

Learning the Value of Tact

I've been known to be blunt and opinionated. Actually.. I wasn't always this way, but I'm pretty sure that's because until about the age of 18, I generally always associated with people who thought the same way I did. When I started meeting and befriending (for whatever reason) people I knew did not have the same values as myself, I'd eventually get irritated with them, speak my mind, and ruin a friendship... that wasn't actually a friendship because even if I never told them the truth, I'd still be thinking it. So, this is what I've come to learn... I need to stop making alliances with those I meet that I feel have small and simple minds or live immorally, and if I do come in to contact with them on occasion due to being in the same circles, I need to speak with tact. I don't think being tactful benefits anyone but yourself. It means lying to another person by witholding the truth, but it also means surviving in a world of people that you don't see eye to eye with.
