Palin accepts David Letterman's apology but protesters still gather outside the Ed Sullivan theater. Some websites have even called for the termination of David Letterman after he made a sexually explicit joke about Palin's daughter. Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska and was the republican Vice President hopeful in the 2008 election.

I really don't think this will hurt David Letterman in the long run because he is such a legend in his field. Personally, he was being funny. Sometimes what is funny to one person isn't funny to another but he was just doing his job.
