Livin' a Dream!
posted October 27, 2009 - 8:34pmA dream job........
When I think of this...I don't really think of making money, more so doing something to benefit others and myself. When I think of a dream job, I think of great people like Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Aung San Su Kyi, or the Dalai Lama. I'm not even sure you'd consider these great people employed haha, and what they did surely isn't considered a "job"..but they influence people and spread hope, not only in their home city, or country, not even solely during their time...but to people around the world and their "job" is on going even after they are gone. The stories alone of these people send optimism, hope, strength and inspiration to anyone who hears them.
Going back to a dream job..I'm not 100% sure what mine would be yet, maybe a combination of different jobs. A dream job would not be a "job", it would be doing something I'd want to do regardless of the wage. I've always wanted to somehow help people who were going through a rough time, or not as fortunate as myself. My dreams have shifted from being a vet to teacher to counselor to child/youth worker, and now I have a dream of volunteering or working in a developing or "third world country". I think it'd be amazing to run a self esteem group, just teaching people basic life skills, and working with people to help them to develop a sense of individuality and self, confidence, and creativity.
Last year while I was traveling in Northern India I came across many Tibetan refugees. I also met a woman in her 50's-who was also from Canada- that picked up her life and moved on over to India to help teach Tibetan monks English. I found her truely inspirational. Also while there, I was fortunate to come across the "Tibetan Children's Village". This is a village in Dharamsala, India where Tibetan children take refuge. I met a young boy, who would be 3 years old now, who was sent over to India by his parents when he was only a baby, in hopes that he'd have a better life. The crazy thing here , is that he was carried through the Himalayas in a box by strangers. The children here vary in age, very young, to teenagers...it's a big orphanage made into a little village. I find nothing more inspirational than people who have little, and take nothing for granted, appreciating everything. I feel no one is more deserving of help than those who struggle to just get by and have no hope but hoping for the acceptance of others and their help. These people are so deserving of it. Although true you cannot save the whole world you can make a step. I believe helping anyone who sincerely wants and needs help is worth more than anything.
Another dream career choice of mine would be to become a travel writer or photographer. I absolutely love travel, and what more could you ask for in a job...get paid to travel and report about different cities, countries, cultures, attractions, hostels and hotels. I'd love to write about off the beaten path adventures. Go to a country, and find the remote, unique little villages. Discover something totally new. Report about interesting aspects to the culture that most tourists miss unless they dig deep for. Travel writing or photography would allow one to further educate themselves and the rest of the world, about the world. Take what they witness, experience, and feel then report it to anyone willing to read or look. I am so inspired by learning about simpler ways of life, remote villages in far away lands. Homes made of mud and brick. People bathing in polluted holy rivers. People selling fruits and vegetables along streets. Cities without McDonalds or KFC. I'd love to write a story for other people to read, and hopefully inspire a couple!
Life would be a non-stop adventure!!!!!!!!!
To me........this is what a "job" should be. Something I can find meaning in. Passion in. A job I can do, and feel happy and proud of doing. To have self fulfillment and the benefit of others coincide.

I would definately consider this a dream job as well....in fact, I hope to be able to do things such as this, yet can't find a way to break from society and still afford such....
