Lose Weight or Lose Your Job?

Lose Weight or Lose Your Job?

This article examines the tactics used by employers to make their employees become physically fit...or else.

In a nutshell, business owners see a decline in insurance claims when employees are at a healthy weight but employees see mandatory participation in wellness programs as an ultimatum.

The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) is comparing this tactic to a hostile work environment.

I think it will become more and more common

It reminds me of the movie Brazil

where the employees pretended to work only when the boss was watching. Peace, Mia NW Please visit my recent posts at: http://www.xomba.com/user/mia_northwest Get paid to be a xombie! Join us here at: http://www.xomba.com/referral/77793fec Thanks!

Wow

How can any employer do that?

Creepy

This is all a little creepy, in a way. It;s like we've reduced employees to just "cogs in the machine" that need to be tuned up. Penalizing people for what they do on their own time is just wrong. How far could they take this, I wonder. What about people who are healthy, but partake in high risk sporting activities...let's take, rock climbing, for instance. Maybe in the future there will be companies that won't allow their employees to do anything in their off time that might seriously injure them, and render them a "useless cog." It's all very Orwellian. ↑ Grab this Headline Animator Join Xomba
