Losing Weight. What Does It Take?
posted May 20, 2008 - 2:03amI have decided that enough is enough! I need to lose a few pounds, for my physical health as much as my self esteem. So, the question is, how do I do that? I've tried everything already!
The answer, I think, is to watch my calories and come up with a reasonable work out schedule that I can actually stick to. Unfortunately, my metabolism is nothing like my sisters'. That woman can eat donuts every day and suffer no ill health effects or hefty weight gain. Me? If I look at a celery stick sideways I blow up by ten pounds! So, this will take some work. Maybe you can relate.
There are some nice calorie counters online, which I have found very useful. A simple google search will leave you with a few nice ones that can help count calories in certain foods, as well as help you figure out how many calories per day you need in order to lose a pound or two per week, or maintain your weight.
Lean Cuisine makes some amazingly tasty entrees actually. And, some great sandwiches. I've been basically living off of those and slim fast shakes for the last two weeks or so. I also try to get a good 30 minute walk in at least 3 days a week. These methods, after everything I've tried, really seem to be working. I've lost 5 pounds or so since doing this, and I really don't have to change a whole heck of a lot in order to accomplish it.
I know that it isn't a magic bullet. It's not a "Hollywood secret" that will shed twenty pounds in a week. But, it is a healthy way to lose weight on a more permanent basis.
I'd say, play with the foods that you like, that are healthy. See what kind of combinations and what-not your body responds best to. For me, for instance, potatoes are great for a starchy vegetable, but rice will pack pounds on and make my blood sugar spike. So, I have to steer clear of that.
