LOST: The Revelation

LOST: The Revelation

Lost. This TV series is a hit on many countries, including mine. Though some fans were turned off by their lengthy encounters, there are still many people following this series. I'm one of them.

I find that Lost is very real, in the sense that it is an analogy of the reality around us played out on a very small population on an island. The lush greenery on the island is like the nature we belong to-- the Earth we live in. Every character represents a different human nature. For one, we can see Claire, the very loving and caring Mother Character. As a typical mother, she always put her baby as a priority before her own. Sawyer, the male chauvinist with major ego issue who is very pragmatic in his means to survive and who tends to see things in black and white. John Locke, the strange character, who doesn't believe in anything else but in himself. Well, that makes him full of himself, which is true to some extent, having caused a severe damage in a trunk that killed some of his pals, and dug his own grave by permitting Benjamin the right circumstances to kill him.

On to Benjamin. [To read more, please scroll down and click on "read more".] He represents the pushy, manipulative nature of some people. Besides which, he is also the clueless person who takes order from above. He leads the tribe, yes, but he follows orders from a non-existant Jacob. No prizes for guessing what/who Jacob represents. Is it out of fear, fear of a disaster that will befall onto him if he defies Jacob's orders-- just like the potential disaster (like going to hell?) that will befall on us if we don't believe in something? Or, is it out of (blind?) dedication, loyalty and commitment to Jacob, that allows Benjamin to be able to see Jacob, to hear Jacob talk and be summoned by Jacob? Benjamin commands over the people and his words are final. There ought to be no doubts, no qualms, no questions over what he has to say. In the portrayal of this character, it reflects well of the world nowadays. Different groups like the "freedom" fighters, the revivalists, the fundamentalists, the (pushy) evangelists, or the higher purpose organisations ETC, they are so rampant now. What are they hoping to achieve? What is THE purpose they are pursuing? When their organisation prosper, does it make them even more holy? When they take away more lives, does it ensure them entry to heavens? Discerning is important in this information-rich era. We have to identify for ourselves the real and unreal.

Do aliens exist? If you can don't think aliens exist, why do you think that there are heaven and hell after life? Besides, NASA scientists have found another Earth-like planet more than a million light years away. The limitation of their technology forbids them from taking a closer look at the movements and the "people" on the planet, but in no time they would be able to do so.

Rather than classifying "miracles" like rising from the dead, walking on the water as spiritual or religious signs, why not shift the perspective and look at it as works of extraterrestials? Anything is possible. Without solid, proven and effected evidence, they are simply consensus.

Unfortunately, many of us have mistakenly taken the accepted or general consensus as the real, genuine truth. Or, we might have conveniently borrowed the consensus as an explanation for simplification. Sometimes, we don't need an answer. There's no answers. Just as Lost has told us, nature has a way of course correction. And, nature need not explain to us why.
