I Loved Walter Cronkite - And, That's The Way It Is, July 17, 2009

Another gear in the American pie wheel has died, Walter Cronkite, at 92. I first met Mr. Cronkite on the show “The 20th Century (1957-1970).” Although, young, I can remember him taking the helm of the CBS Evening News, from Douglas Edwards in 1962. There will be much television and words written about our dear Walter.

One of Walter's great passions was the space program, from its beginnings in 1957 up to today. How ironic it is that Walter passed away during the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11. He was energized by this event as it unfolded, and speechless upon the perfect landing, which would have been disasterous had it not been for the fast-acting Neil Armstrong over-riding the auto-pilot and landing the lunar module manually.

I will miss Walter Cronkite. He was, for me, one of the fuel-cells that propelled me to write, as, I'm sure he did for many. My grandmother and parents trusted him and loved him for his straight shooting practices, and, his opinions, and his clean life. Gosh, Walter, I'm going to miss you.

You've left so much of you behind to be cherished for generations of Americans, now, and yet to come.

Thank you Mr. Cronkite and thank you for all the memories and challenges and belief in the American people.

“And, that's the way it is, July 17, 2009.”

He Will Be Missed.

Cronkite was one of the best. I grew up watching his newscasts. His coverage of the space program was second to none. jdbaok http://UniqueKeepsakeBoxes.com http://facesofalzheimers.com
