A study which was reported by Associated Press indicates that’s even those that are moderately fit had lower risk of stroke. Even by walking briskly half an hour a day or 30minutes a day five times a week can lower the risk for stroke for both men and women. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is stopped when a blood vessel is blocked by a clot or when a rupture occurs. Previous research on stroke and fitness has been done on men but were relying mostly on the participants report on their physical activity. This new data were taken from more than 61,000 adults in Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. They were made to answer periodical health surveys after taking a treadmill test. The participant were divided into four levels of fitness and looked at how many of them had strokes following them for an average of 18 years. The lower risk even held true taking into account other risk factors such as weight, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, family history. Physical fitness can help prevent blood clots and the build up of plaque or fatty deposits in the arteries.
