Made in the USA: Sock it to me
Made in the USA: Sock it to me
Okay, so I’m not much of a sock aficionado—that’s more my wife’s purview. Unfortunately, so is laundry. And when I washed the gold cushion covers from my couch with the family socks and underwear the other day and turned everything yellow, it became my job to, at least temporarily, become a sock aficionado. Or, if I couldn’t quite pull that off, at least go buy some socks.
Such was my condition when I arrived at Sam’s Club and saw a package of 10 pairs of socks for $11.24. I had no idea whether that was a good price or not, but after looking around briefly on the web it seems pretty good. So, anyway, I bought the socks, thinking little of it, and came home and threw the entire package in the sock drawer, not bothering to pull apart and make neat pairs. My work was done. I had paid my sock restitution. Little did I realize just how well I had paid it.
The next day, I put on a pair of the new socks and, much to my surprise, became an instant sock aficionado. The socks are oddly soft and cushiony, and my big, smelly man feet are already spoiled. Reaching for the package, I find to my complete and utter shock that these socks, Burlington socks, were made in the U.S.A.
And suddenly it becomes clear to me what the American quest for cheap consumption has done for the quality of our products. Well, not for my feet—not anymore. Call me Princess Paula if you like, but I’m pampering my feet with these socks from now on, and I might just start looking for other products that say “Made in the U.S.A.” on them.
They are a bit more expensive on the web than they were at the wholesale club, but if you want to go check out their products, the web address is: http://www.burlingtonsocks.com/default.aspx
