Make a jacket from a sweatshirt
posted November 3, 2007 - 9:15amA great craft, hobby or business idea, is to get creative with sweatshirts.
Purchase blank sweat shirts, and then lay them flat out on the table, cut off the ribbing at the bottom and off the sleeves, hem the raw edges
and press, now find the center front and
cut straight up the front and hem each side.
This forms a loose jacket, and is ready for your designs, a great look is to sew pieces of fabric with raw edges all over the jacket, to form a "raggedy jacket" or quilt it, or paint it, applique it.
These make great gifts, and can be customized with color themes with fabric. A great one is a oriental look with the red, black and gold fabrics you can get now, and sew them in pieces onto this jacket, this works great with a black sweat shirt for the background.
These sweatshirts can be just thrown in the washing machine and dryer and will get softer and softer.
