Make Crafts to Sell
posted November 5, 2009 - 8:41pmTurn your hobby into cash, make crafts to sell, and make some extra money. Everyone keeps telling you this right? But how do you start and where?
The first thing you need to do, is take stock of your talents and what you like to make. It has to be something you enjoy making and creating, and can picture youself doing on a regular basis.
Next is to go to craft shows, and art shows, and see how much of the arts and crafts are being presented. Do NOT copy, but this should spark some ideas of your own.
Next, test the market. Once you have decided on a particular art or craft, make some of your best pieces and then invite your friends and family over for a "art or craft show" and let them see your work. You can call this your "launch day" Let everyone know, that you are now doing this as a business, and would love for your friends and family to help market your product.
This is where you find out who likes what that you had displayed, and you let them have your work. I know you think "for FREE?" yes, for free. Your friends and your family are going to be your best marketers. Get them to pick an item them really like and either display it or wear it or whatever to work, out and about, and arm them with your business cards.
Then let them show off your work for you. Giving them an item for free is a small price to pay for advertising. This should get you started. Word of mouth is a great way to start a craft business. So, take that next step and turn your hobby into cash
