Man Ordered to Clean Veteran Memorial with Toothbrush
It is reported in Michigan that a 73 year old man named Philip Kolinski was ordered to clean a veteran’s memorial with a toothbrush after he took part in a scam to solicit scrap yards for metal and saying it was going to be used to build a memorial for soldiers in the Iraq war.
He and another man were arrested were arrested after scrap yards reporting the men receiving metal donations for a sculpture. The men sold the metal and kept the money. Kolinski pleaded guilty even though he claimed that he didn’t know he committed a crime. He claimed that he was just hauling metal to the dump yard for the other man.
Kolinski was charged with a misdemeanor charge of obtaining more than $200 under false pretenses. The judge also ordered him to pay $9,000 in restitution and $2,095 in fees and fines and to clean the veteran’s memorial with a toothbrush.
