Managing Success and Time
posted October 25, 2009 - 7:29pmOkay, You’re successful. Now What?
You’ve achieved your educational goals. You have a professional career and years of working experience that has gotten you there. Now what?
Achieving your goals should be something to be celebrated. I remember taking a refresher course on
achieving goals. It was segmented into several areas: Educational, Professional, Personal, etc. As I started to write my goals down, I realized that I had achieved several of the goals I had written in previous goal setting courses. I even commented to a coworker, “I’ve achieved most of my goals”. My coworker commented, “Now it’s time to set new goals.”
My initial thoughts were, why not celebrate the ones I’ve achieved. I think there is fear that if you stop to appreciate what you’ve done, you’ll get stagnate or something. Turns out my coworker was right. I noticed I hadn’t really focused on my personal goals. First my goals were work-based: educational and professional. Now my goals now are to learn to relax, take time to develop personal relationships and to continue to develop my hobbies. My personal goals had taken a back seat for years.
What’s even more ironic is I don’t even know how I started from personal-based to where I am now, which is work-based. Now, I’m trying to get back to personal-based and I’m realizing the transition is not easy. My main hurdle is time management.
