Manny Pacquiao won by a technical knockout over the Mexican-American David Diaz in the ninth round of a scheduled 12 rounds of fight; at Mandalay bay resort and casino, Las Vegas Nevada, Saturday June 28, 2008. < p>
At the start of the fight Manny already controlled the fight until the knock out. He attacked Diaz with lethal combination of jobs and hooks (fitting for the title of the fight). On top of it all is his lightning speed. Included in his arsenal is his new weapon, his upper cut.
Freddie Roach already predicted a knock out on the eight or ninth round. As one commentator said, that “Manny becomes dangerous beyond the six rounds”. He was hitting Diaz with the same lethal combinations with almost the same (if not the same) speed and power as when the first bell rang on the first round.
As was the interview with Diaz after the fight that, it’s not Manny’s power but Manny’s speed that became his problem “it’s his speed I can take his power… I could not match Him”. When He was asked what’s next for Diaz, He said he definitely would take some months off; and when Bob Arum was asked about Diaz, He jokingly replied, “the next time, we’ll get somebody who is much slower”. With the post-fight interview Diaz said that “he will fight another day”.
When Manny Pacquiao was asked about Diaz, He said, “He’s the toughest opponent that he had”. He said that he hit Diaz with strong shots or punches, but Diaz still remains standing. Manny also mentioned that he is comfortable with the 135 lbs, and he can take opponents on 135lbs even 140 lbs. When asked about the 147 lbs (which Cotto, Maywheather, or de La Hoya belongs), He just laughed and gestured and said “no” and Bob Arum said, “Stay away from Cotto”. Manny with an interview from a Filipino reporter, Manny expressed that he pitied David Diaz, because he said that Diaz is a good man compared with the previous fighters.
Manny is the first and only Filipino and Asian fighter who had championed in four different weight classes. From108 lbs to now 135 lbs.
Manny was able to Have his pictures taken with his favorite team, the Boston Celtics, especially with his favorite Kevin Garnet. And when Garnett asked about Manny, his reply is “He’s Huge, He’s huge Man I’m a big fan of Manny”.
Indeed Manny Pacquiao made his countrymen proud, He dedicated the fight for the Victims of the typhoon Frank (international code: Fenshen) which until this point is still having a search and retrieval operations for the more than 700 victims of a ship that had sanked.
Indeed, Manny is the pound for pound king, not by default but by achievement
