Many Hats

Many Hats

Many hats do I wear each day
An imposter really is what I am
Playing one part, no two, no eight
Sometimes I feel like such a sham
But count on me they do, these leaners
Wanting, needing my services daily
Taking my kindness to the cleaners
While reaping in benefits, laughing gaily
Givers like me can only give
No matter that we ought to know better
While takers take so they can live
Their neediness causing my latest fetter
Tied down to obligations and humanity
Cursing this cycle of viciousness
My life has become a calamity
Of helping with everyone's business
One by one these hats do fall from my head
Overwhelming me with indecisions
Which hats do I save, which hats do I shed?
Which hat will protect me from those pigeons?

Actually that is the story of us all - we wear all those hats, being all kinds of things to everyone and then when one needs to be the leaner, needing support for once, everybody disappears!!!
