In an ongoing mission to prevent confusion and possible tainting of her name, Mariah Carey has filed an appeal to the Patent and Trademark Office requesting a ban of a similar name being requested as a trademark by porn star, Mary Carey.

Mariah fears her fans would confuse the services provided under that possible trademark of Mary Carey for services offered by her label and name.

Has Mariah underestimated the intelligence of her fan base with this appeal? Is it an insult to her adoring public to imply that they cannot decipher the difference between Mariah and Mary; music and porn? Has she overreacted?

In her panic, has she inadvertently offended the porn industry and does she not see any similarities between a naked porn star and a nearly naked Mariah (which almost always graces the covers of her CD’s and posters)? Hmmmnnn…..I can see where the confusion might just enter into it all. If you don't want to be confused with pornography Mariah, try keeping your clothes ON and let your vocal talent sell you!

However, this reporter does not feel there is any cause for alarm since Miss Carey’s superstardom and tremendous talent do speak for themselves. Since the release of her self titled album in 1990 which introduced the hit single “Vision of Love” and her amazing vocal range to the world, Mariah has become a household name. This is not a feat easily accomplished overnight by a porn star unless your name happens to be Jenna Jameson.

So chill out Mariah! The world and your fans love you and we are all aware of not only your name, but its correct spelling as well.
