Marist Red Foxes Seek Another Upset vs. LSU in Women's NCAAs
posted March 24, 2008 - 6:07pmThe Marist College women's basketball team is looking for another upset win in the NCAA tournament Monday as it takes on No. 2 seek Louisiana State. No. 7 seed Marist beat DePaul over the weekend with a big second-half surge, outscoring the Blue Demons 45-20 the final 20 minutes.
Trying to beat LSU presents a much bigger challenge for the Red Foxes, however: LSU is one of the nation's elite teams, and has reached at least the Sweet 16 the last five years (which includes a couple of trips to the Final Four).
LSU also has Sylvia Fowles, who has been considered one of the best players in the country during her years at LSU. The six-foot-six center is averaging more than 17 points a game this season.
To make things even tougher for Marist, the game will take place in LSU's hometown of Baton Rouge. To have a chance against LSU, Marist will need solid performances from its stars of the DePaul game, Rachel Fitz and Julianne Viani.
