Martinis and Sushi at the Bowling Alley?

Martinis and Sushi at the Bowling Alley?

I don't think so. Bowling is making a comeback but it's not in the alleys that we remember.

Upscale bowling alleys are popping up around the country complete with supper clubs and fine dining.

Fine dining? What happened to the onion rings, corn dogs and french fries smothered in the ketchup/mustard that sat out in the same containers on the counter forever? Pop, candy and gum were the normal staples...not mahi mahi, sushi and martinis.

Oooh, what a purty bowling alleyOooh, what a purty bowling alley

My grandfather's bowling alley

is still in business in West Virginia. It now has pool tables and has rock and country music playing on Friday and Saturday nights to appeal to the young people, but other than that it's your basic old-fashioned bowling alley. Still does a good business on weekends, giving people somewhere to go instead of getting into trouble... the reason he started it way back when.

I don't think martinis and sushi would fly in his bowling alley, or in West Virginia in general!
