Massive Giant Orb Spider Discovered in Africa

Scientists have found the world’s largest species of golden orb-weaver spider in the tropics of Africa and Madagascar. The discovery marks the first identification of a new Nephila spider since 1879.

This spider was once thought by scientists to be extinct, only to find that they still exist in the tropical rainforests of Madagascar. Though not extinct, they are extremely rare. Only three specimens have been found in the last decade.
