From the Master of Suspense: The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
posted November 2, 2009 - 6:23amWho is the most famous director ever? Maybe some say Ingmar Bergman. And maybe some suggest Orson Welles. Or Fellini.
...But seriously, guys - come on! The most famous director ever is of course Alfred Hitchcock, there's absolutely no doubt about that. And Hitch is probably the best director as well, even though he did make a handful of duds and lesser movies.
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH from 1934, about a man and his wife who witness an assassination attempt, and whose daughter is kidnapped to keep them quiet, is interesting, since it's the only movie Hitchcock actually remade himself. The British original starred Leslie Banks, Edna Best and Peter Lorre, and when the new American color version premiered in 1956, James Stewart and Doris Day played the leads.
Which version is the best one? Well, it's up to you. The original is darker, but the remake features Jimmy Stewart.
The original THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH is in public domain, meaning it can be downloaded and watched legally and free. Click the link below for a site where you can stream it.
