Maybe in context?

Maybe in context?

I heard on the radio this morning that an ESPN play-by-play guy has been suspended for using the word "gay" in describing somthing that happened durring the game he was covering this past weekend. He apologized and said he would be careful no to use words that could be taken out of context in the future.

Query: If your covering a football game, as this personality was, at what point, EVER, will the word "gay" be in context and appropriate? I know there is a WR for FSU whose name is Fagg, but that is his given name. This is something a little different right? In the land of PC, which I'm sure most of us here do not endorse, I want to know how you could do this without offending anyone?

Gay

You could use it to describe the mood of the player. Let's hear from John and AL. "Roma doesn't seem to be his morose self. Instead he seems a little gay." "Your right Al, he does seem a little gay. I always liked it when all of a sudden - BOOM - a player was gay. It seemed to make a everyone a little more gay. Soon the whole locker room would be gay and we would go out and kick a little ass." "Well, I'm not to fond of everyone being gay John. I think you have to bring a some seriousness to the ballpark." And so on...

There's a player with...

the name Gay as well, but yes I do agree. That's something the middle-school students use to describe events that don't meet the expectations, but for an announcer to use it is an entirely different situation.
