McCain, Obama Plan Joint Appearance at Ground Zero on 9/11

John McCain and Barack Obama will take a day off campaigning on Thursday, Sept. 11 to make a show of unity on the seventh anniversary on the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01.

Terrorists on that day commandeered commercial airliners and crashed them into the two World Trade Center towers in Lower Manhattan and into the Pentagon. Another plane headed for Washington, D.C. crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers overpowered the terrorists.

Both McCain and Obama had previously said they would not run campaign ads critical of each other on Sept. 11th.

“All of us came together on 9/11 — not as Democrats or Republicans — but as Americans,” read a joint statement by the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees. “We were united as one American family. On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity.”

Obama & McCain on 9/11

I'm just glad I won't have to see any attack ads on that day. And I think anything that reminds people of what happened on 9/11 and the people who were lost is a good thing.

Pimping Tragedy

Considering the amount of animosity and mudslinging back-and-forth between both campaigns, I question the innocence of both campaigns appearing at Ground Zero under a so-called White Flag for 24 hours. The reason I question their motives is that we are all on the same team every day of every year as Americans. The level of personal and professional hatred, not just by the candidates or their campaigns, but by partisan citizens, belies the notion that the two sides can "take a day off" to be friends united one day then resume the same level of pettiness and bickering the next day. What this may be (and I hope I am wrong) is one campaign decided to pimp the tragedy to show how their side will prevent another 9/11 and the other side didn't want to be left out of the photo opportunity. Neither side is running on a platform of unity or America First, but there is plenty of "divide and conquer" to go around. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?
