A senior GOP campaign official has said that Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) is John McCain's choice for Vice President. Governor Palin is the mother of 5 children, one of which is active military. She also has a child with Down's Syndrome.

John McCain has not yet expressed his reasons for picking Palin as his vice presidential running mate. However, she was considered to be a long shot pick for a vice presidential candidate in the upcoming presidential election. Among the leaders in the running were Mitt Romney.

A more formal announcement is expected within the next few hours at a swing-state rally in Dayton, Ohio.
