The Meaning of life part 2: without life after death

The meaning of life: without life after death

Let us assume that life after death is a lie. When you die, all conciousness stops. What kind of life would you lead? If you knew your end of your means was nothing for eternity, what would your meaning of life be? The easy and naive answer is nothing. Not because it's ambitious but because it is too simple to describe what this type of thinker is thinking. To a spiritualist, death is not the end; but to a naturalist it is the pressing end that drives them. The naturalist has no need to think about the pressures of obtaining eternal life, because he cares about the endless possibilities of pleasures of the present. If there is any future involved in the mind of a naturalist, it is either benefit or destruction of people, things and situations. With all this in mind what are some things we can deduce from our experiment? That in this frame of mind, the point of life is to maximize the pleasures that a person experiences unto death. This principle alone has no moral boundries, but a society and individuals set their own limitations to what most people consider evil. A life lived this way allows a person to push his physical and mental limits to the point of death and the death and destruction of others. That is they have the option to destroy, or keep. If I believed this way, and I knew it was true, then I would promote goodwill to the human race. I would be fighting the forces that wish to destroy the livelyhood of people. I would promote civilization as a whole to better itself without killing itself first. That meaning of life itself would be quite difficult without the spiritual option.

I doubt that there is

I doubt that there is anything in this world that could make me a man, intelligent comments included. And I apologize. I simply saw the stereotypical view of the catholic church and assumed you were being narrow-mindedly anti-catholic. How unmanly of me.

Intelligent comments don't make you a man either

Read it again - you've misunderstood the comment and clarified your difficulty in comprehension with your trite remark. The example given was of Catholic priests - well spotted! The opinion expressed was that those (meaning ANYONE) who believe in an afterlife ARE NOT THE ONLY GOOD PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. wow

Do you really believe that today's organized religion holds a monopoly on those who believe in an afterlife? Belief in the afterlife does not make one a Catholic, sir.

God Squad Rubbish Supports Paedophiles

People who believe in an afterlife do not have a monopoly on goodness. If they did the paedophile priests wouldn't have had free reign to abuse thousands of children for the past 2000 years and that's just for starters. Don't fall for such a ridiculous argument. behave yourself!

That's just such a blinkered view of humanity. You want to read some genuine atheist philosophy from well over 2000 years ago search for my articles on Epicurus. Naturalism has nothing to say about death; merely that whatever can be said to exist is part of the universe, of nature. So, if there really was any existence after death then that would still be a realm within the universe, not something outside of it. So, from what you're saying, better to live a lie than search for the truth? Even better to live an expedient lie so that other people behave themselves? Join Xomba Here
