Medicinal Implication of Maize

To most people the world over, the probably known use of maize
(corn) is for consumption. However, the Cereal plant, which is the most
important cereal in the world after Wheat and Rice, taking into
cognizance, its cultivation areas and total production has many other
uses. It offers unparallel and inestimable value fore medical purposes.

I have highlighted below, some unknown medicinal values of Maize.
Amazingly, maize has about 30 million tones per year of Global
production, with the USA producing about 145 million (approximately
50%) of the total production.

1) According to Abdulrahaman, he put forward that water filtered
through charcoal obtained from maize stalk can be used as a treatment
to cure gonorrhea. What a great amazement.

2) An infusion obtained from stigma of maize inflorescence can be
used for treatment of diseases of the urinary tracts or passage.

3) Fermented water (called omi eko, omidun, in Yoruba language, a
native Nigerian language) obtained during the preparation of pap is
used to soak the bark or root of some plants (e.g dokita igbo). This is
used to treat fever and malaria. Water obtained from the cold pap is
more effective than that from the hot pap.

4) Cold pap or eko tutu, obtained from processed maize is used more
often in traditional medicines. It is mixed with some preparations
(usually granulated, black particles) to cure some spiritual problems.
It may be prescribed to provide protection against enemies, bad
occurrences, and accidents e.t.c.

5) Holes are made on some maize grains to make rosary. It is placed
on the hand (wrist) of a child to prevent him/her from becoming slim
