Meet the new look, SRK!

Ok, confession time! I’ve never found Shah Rukh Khan dashing. In fact, if I can afford to be curt, he’s almost always been ‘ugggghhh’! But the day I caught a glimpse of his upcoming flick Chak De India, I was rather pleasantly surprised. SRK, the Bollywood badshah , is looking smashing. Actually!

Thank God the transparent kurtis , exposing his not so chiseled and waxed chest, have been given a miss. I simply love his newly acquired rugged and macho look. What a pleasant change from the yippee-I-am-still-stuck-being-a-teenager-wearing-tees look.

Shah Rukh in Chakde is Kabir Khan, Indian women’s hockey team’s tough coach. Shimit Amin, the movie’s director thinks Khan has done “full justice” to the look of the character. “I am sure no one would have been able to carry this look with so much perfection as Shah Rukh has. We wanted to give him a rugged look and I must say he’s done full justice,” he says.

Khan’s role has been based on the life of former coach Ranjan Negi. The film tracks Negi’s life from the time he was charged with match fixing to the time he brought home the gold for the Indian Women’s hockey team in 2002 Commonwealth Games. “Negi Sir was kind enough to share his wardrobe with us. We took pictures of his clothes and designed the same kind of clothes for Shah Rukh. He is sporting a serious and intense look,” says Mandira Shukla, the film’s costume designer.

Here’s how you can get the SRK look:

Only shirts please: Lock all your tees in the closet and throw the keys somewhere! “Shirts render a very masculine look. Make that a full-sleeves shirt. Shades of brown complete the macho look,” says renowned designer Monisha Bajaj. For that crisp and stern look, don’t forget to iron your shirt.
Colour: White, Beige, blue, brown, khaki, olive
Fabric: Cotton blends
