Although men and women need most of the same vitamins every day, they also have different nutritional needs. Many times the dosage may be different and they may have to take specific vitamins and minerals for their separate needs.

Along with a regular multivitamin, men should also take these. < p>

Vitamin A

This vitamin promotes clear skin, fights free radicals and contributes to the immune system. Teenage boys are more prone to acne than teenage girls because of the increase in male hormones. Doses of vitamin A can help clear up troubled skin. it also supports the immune system, aids in the growth and maintenance of cells, skin and bones, and enhances eyesight. The recommended daily dosage for men is 1000 micrograms.

Niacin

This promotes healthy blood cholesterol levels and supports both the digestive and nervous systems.

Vitamin C

Because this is not stored in the body it must be replenished every day. It helps prevent disease and infection and promotes the absorption of iron. It is essential for a healthy circulatory system.

If your man is a smoker, he's going to need two or three times the regular dose of vitamin C. per day. Smoking diminishes the amount of vitamin C. in your system. Be sure to choose time release vitamin C. with rose hips tablets to ensure your getting a proper dosage of this vitamin. Taking more than 1,000mg a day could cause diarrhea.

B. vitamins

The same is true for the B. vitamins. If you're a man you need to take more of these to compensate for the extra stress you encounter every day. They are also diminished by smoking, and cannot be absorbed properly if you drink alcohol.

zinc

This contributes to sperm development, testosterone synthesis and activity, heals wounds and promotes proper prostate function. It also helps males mature properly.

Pantothenic acid

This is a vital nutrient for the hormone producing adrenal glands .

Selenium

This is believed to help against cancer. Men should take 70 mg of this antioxidant a day.

Men over 50 years of age generally need more vitamin B6 , Pantothenic acid , and zinc as well as these other supplements.

Men also need to consume more fruits and vegetables per day than women to help reduce the risk of many cancers, high blood pressure diabetes and heart disease.

It is recommended that they eat at least nine servings per day. A serving size is approximately the size of the palm of your hand. This also is equal to approximately one cup of juice, vegetables or fruit , or one medium piece of fruit. By combining several vegetables or fruits in a salad and snacking on vegetables and fruits between meals it should be easy to consume nine servings per day.
