Michael Phelps - Biggest Show In Town

Michael Phelps
Michael Phelps may not be nicknamed the albatross, but with a 6' 7" wingspan, he can surely swim! He already has six gold medals under his belt in the Athens Olympics (denied a seventh by Ian Thorpe). And he is trying for an unprecedented eight here. The only thing that looks likely to stop him from breaking Mark Spitz's long standing haul of seven golds now is - overlapping schedules. After all he is stronger now than at Athens and he won six golds there. Not to mention the Speedo LZR in his armor now.
The indefatigable swimmer just slipped into Beijing and one hopes the media attention he is getting does not distract him...
Here are the covers Michael Phelps has made it to and some more!

Of course Phelps hasnt said he will win eight golds, he has merely registered for eight events. The media has assumed the rest. And so far he has been the main show in town.
Phelps is entered for the following events (with dates)
10th - 400m ind. medley
11th - 4 X 100 freestyle
12th - 200 m freestyle
13th - 4 X 200 freestyle, 200 mtr Butterfly
15th - 200 m ind. medley
16th - 100 m Butterfly
17th - 4 X 100 medley
Whew! If he can even compete in these he must be God, and if he actually wins all he would be like the first man on Mars (as Spitz has commented).
He holds the WR in four of the individual events he is competing in, 200m (freestyle and Butterfly), 200 and 400 m individual medley.
Did you know Phelps was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)during childhood? Or that he was the youngest American male swimmer in 68 years when he competed at Sydney? And he hates to lose.
