Michigan Ordered to Restore Purged Voters

In a federal court ruling today, the Michigan secretary of state was ordered to discontinue the policy of purging newly registered voters from the rolls if their voter identification cards were returned by the post office as undeliverable. The policy and practice are illegal under federal law because it violates the National Voter Registration Act of 1993--the so-called "Motor Voter" Law.

In Detroit alone, nearly 30,000 voters per year have been purged under the bad Michigan law.
