Might as Well Face it You're Addicted to Pop

Might as Well Face it You're Addicted to Pop

Are you addicted to pop? Here's a list to check and see if you are indeed a slave to the fizz, chemicals and caffeine conveniently served in every store and vending machine around the planet:

1. The moment you wake up, you shuffle to the kitchen, grope around in the fridge for your morning Mountain Dew and smile satisfactorily when you hear carbonation escape as you twist the cap.

2. You fondly remember when you first learned how to pop and pull off a sharp metal tab from Tab. You also tell your kids how cool it was to drop this sharp metal tab in to the can of pop and try to avoid swallowing it while drinking.

3. Your favorite candy is Bottle Caps.

4. You cut coupons all week long and distribute to friends who are coerced into standing in line at Safeway to buy cases of pop for you since the limit is 2 per person.

5. You have no problem paying $7.50 for a large Coke at the movies as long as it lasts through the previews.

6. You mock all the coffee drinkers in your life, telling them they’re missing out on the syrup high.

7. You don’t understand why your dentist keeps giving you free samples of floss, fluoride and a discount on a Water-Pic.

8. The bedtime lullaby you sing for your kids starts with “I’d like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony…”

9. You refer to the marketing fiasco of Coke’s new formula as the Dark Ages.

10. Most of your clothes come from redeeming rewards points from bottle cap codes.

If any of these items seem familiar to you, you may have a pop addiction just like a dear friend of mine who is currently fighting her addition to fizz.

I am totally addicted!

since I was a kid, I've always drank soda. Now, I'm 19 years old and I drink ATLEAST 4 to 5 cans a day! I recently went to the dentist to discover that I have 14 cavities total! Ughhhh those damn numbing needles kill.... still cant kick the habit :(

I remember those machines SEO

That was the "treat" when we would go to my dad's work on Saturdays. They had a coke machine and a bottle of cole was a quarter! There was a bottle opener on the side of the machine to open it too! We would save the bottles and take them to the local liquor store and get money for candy! MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Dr Pepper

I'm not addicted to pop, although I DO miss that sweet nectar, DR Pepper! (It is not readily accessible in Thailand) Also, one of my fondest childhood memories is of drinking the coldest Cokes on earth in glass bottles from an old pull-style Coke machine in the middle of summer! (and then getting a nickel back for the bottle) I think I've never had a more satisfying drink in my life! PyraBang, The People's Media! R Whites lemonade

ah the joy of words... and I thought this was going to be about pop music! I don't call it pop, mind you, I don't drink much of it anyway, but I know what soda is and that's like pop without any flavour... anyway, to add something meaningful to the thread... classic fizzy drink TV advert from the UK is R Whites lemonade. crazy ad. I can relate

I used to guzzle Coke like there was no tomorrow. Fortunately, I curbed that habit some years ago, since there's a history of diabetes in my family. Still, there's nothing like a big, cold glass of pop/soda on a hot day. :)

When a coke isn't necessarily a coke

The other slang term for a carbonated sweet beverage is "coke" and not necessarily the beverage produced by the Coca Cola company. I believe that's more a Southern thing. That was one of my favorite memories from my time in the Navy, when I first got exposed to the different expressions and slang terms from different regions in the U.S. I grew up in Los Angeles, so I always used the word "soda" or just referred to whatever beverage by its actual brand name. most of my friends

are pop addicts. I've never liked the taste of it. I have a serious problem with coffee, though. I've got to kick that habit in a bad way! My friend who inspired the xombyte is having a really tough time weening herself. Her last physical showed that her bones had aged far beyond what they should be as she doesn't drink milk, etc. just pop. And who calls it soda, wHATUP? Just typing the word soda is weird. Soda is in a yellow box that sits in your fridge with a little arm & hammer on it. It's definitely POP. :) Peace, Mia NW

Pepsi Max is what does it for me

I've had a lifelong relationship with caffeine of the cold and carbonated variety. Even though I enjoy a coffee drink now and again, I prefer my energizing beverages cold. Currently, it is Pepsi Max with caffeine and ginseng, although I am getting ready to transition away from it because the only place left to go with more oomph is the strictly energy drinks, like Red Bull or Rock Star, and, while I don't mind the "pick me up" part of their ingredients, I have a problem with the "drop me off while the car is still moving" part of their ingredients. I do like the fizziness, too, but the carbonation is acidic and my stomach isn't what it was twenty years ago and I will find myself reaching for the Tums from time to time.
