The Miss USA Pageant organizer has acknowledged that Carrie Prejean's answer on legalization of gay marriage may have cost her the crown. Carrie Prejean, Miss California 2009, was adjuged first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant. When Preejan was openly asked by gay pageant judge Perez Hilton for her opinion regarding legalizing gay marriage, she responded that she did not mean any offense to anyone but that she believed marriage is between a man and a woman.
