Missing link in pterodactyl evolution discovered in China

 A new species of 160 million year old pterodactyl was discovered in China earlier in 2009 and was named "Darwinopterus."  This new species is an evolutionary gap filler that is not an intermediate between the earlier and later species: the long tail is like the tails of the earlier species and a head and neck like the head and neck of later species.  It was a surprise that the tail, head, and neck evolved separately and not at the same time.
