The Monday Night Massacre....Halloween 1994
posted October 26, 2009 - 8:56pmThe Bears Vs the Packers Halloween '94'
It was a very cold ,windy, rainy ,and even more soggy Soldier Field that night , a night any Chicago native/ bear fan would love to for get .
To get slaughtered by of ALL teams it had to be The Packers ..
FINAL WAS 33-6 ..as if it could not had gotten any worse, the MONDAY NIGHT CURSE was upon us that night for sure !
They say the bears are cursed on Monday nights, and that Halloween night no one argued that fact .
That Monday night encounter on Halloween in 1994 when 47,381 fans braved monsoon-like conditions to see the Bears retire Dick Butkus' and Gale Sayers' numbers. The two would have loved playing in this Monday night encounter; Butkus the old-fashioned, hard-hitting linebacker, Sayers a spectacular mudder who once scored six touchdowns against San Francisco on a muddy field. And the Bears could have used the two Hall of Famers.
The Bears could had used ANYONE !
At halftime, Chicago was down 14-0 despite the fact that Brett Favre didn't complete a pass (he was 0-for-7 until midway through the third quarter). But Favre led the Pack on its ground attack, which rolled up 223 yards and didn't turn the ball over once !
7-0 midway through the second quarter, Favre took it himself on a bootleg from the Chicago 36. Rather than pitch it to Edgar Bennett, the fourth-year quarterback faked left and went right. Darting down the sideline behind Bennett and tight end Ed West, he reached the goal line untouched until he faced Jeremy Lincoln, who he hurdled to reach the end zone.
Favre didn't have to do much more after that. Even though he completed just 6-of-15 passes for 82 yards, the Bears killed any chance of rallying by turning the ball over five times. Bennett put the game out of reach with two touchdowns in the second half en route to the 33-6 Packers win.A Monday Night Game That CHICAGO & The BEARS Will Never Forget ..
THE HALLOWEEN MONDAY NIGHT MASSACRE !
