The Moon Landing Was Faked

The Moon Landing Was Faked

I was talking with a co-worker yesterday morning and ended up in a discussion about the moon landing being a hoax. My co-worker told me that it had to be a hoax because read in the news even Neil Armstrong believed it was a hoax. Apparently, according to his account of the article, Neil was so upset that he even threw away his moon rocks that he brought back with him from the trip.

The article stated that Neil had been watching various videos from Youtube, and had been visiting other websites that had convinced him that the moon landing was faked. Neil was devastated to think that the government and NASA had deceived him. Needless to say, this absolutely blew my mind. Is it true? Could the moon landing really be a hoax? Well, there are quite a few people who truly believe this, but c'mon, Neil Armstrong. Something just didn't seem right.

Some of you probably read the same article yesterday on your favorite news site/feed. My co-worker found it on Google news. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of those people. I would have loved to have gotten a chance to be some of the first to read it, because this was history in the making. I'm certain there were a good many people who were absolutely thrilled to read this. And just like my co-worker they believed every word of it and ate it up like candy.

It didn't take long for the gears in my mind to start turning, I've seen this sort of thing before. Even if Neil did believe it was a hoax, it's very likely that he would not have (been allowed to) come forward with this information. Then it occured to me... I asked my co-worker if he had possibly read this from The Onion. He said no, it was definitely from Google. It still didn't sit right with me though.

When I finally got home I couldn't wait to look up the article. I had to know if this was for real. As it turns out the article was originally printed by The Onion, and then was picked up by two different newspapers in  Bangladesh whom apparently took it seriously and didn't realize that the articles posted by The Onion were simply satire and were not factual. The newspapers have since apologized for their mistake. The ironic thing is this is not the first time something like this has happend and it will likely not be the last.
