In the night, the whine of its delicate engine echoed in the cave of my ear. In the rage of waking, I clawed the darkness. Our fight continued until the whine ceased to return. I presumed I had won until morning revealed the welt, and I realized in that moment I was fathering children in a nearby marsh, as I realize in this moment she is fathering the words.
