Movie Review: Day of the Dead: Contagium, aka Day of the Dead - The Beginning (2005)

The beginning is promising. In a prologue, we get to see what caused the events in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1968. Soldiers mow down hundreds of zombies.Blood! Guts! More blood!
Flash forward to present time. The main characters of the story are patients in an asylum (!) and almost like in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD (1985) they find a thermos with that zombie gas from 1968.
Then nothing at all happens. After 30 long minutes, they open the damn thermos and get infected.
And then ... nothing much happens, more than they feel ill and they shed skin. When there's about 15 minutes left of the way too long movie, zombies show up.
Badly written, badly directed, badly acted, flat, boring cinematography, remarkably crappy special effects. This is one of the worst zombie movies I've ever seen, it may very well be the worst one. You'll hate yourself if you rent or buy this one!
DAY OF THE DEAD 2 really is some kind of official entry in George A. Romero's DEAD series, don't ask me why and how they got it, but the specatcularly untalented co-directors Ana Clavell and James Glenn Dudelson have some kind of deal with Romero. They also made the piss-awful CREEPSHOW III, a movie comparable to spitting Romero in his face.
As if this wasn't bad enough, Clavell, Dudelson and their Taurus Entertainment plan yet another installment in the DAY OF THE DEAD series - or maybe I should put it their DAY OF THE DEAD series. The hack couple threaten to make something called DAY OF THE DEAD: EPIDEMIC...
To make things even more confusing, there is the 2008 remake of Romero's original from Millennium/NU Image, directed by Steve Miner, produced by Romero and starring Mena Suvari and Ving Rhames... That movie isn't very good, but it's a classic compared to the Taurus atrocities.
