Movie Review: Evil Aliens (2006)
posted October 25, 2009 - 9:39amA woman on the Welsh countryside claims aliens have made her pregnant. A very sexy TV-reporter (the lovely Emily Booth) from a show about the supernatural goes to Wales to interview the woman and to make a reconstruction of the alien abduction. While doing this, the real aliens show up.
These aren't your average aliens - these are Evil Aliens!
Jovial British goth Jake West did his directorial debut in 1998 with the very uneven RAZOR BLADE SMILE. EVIL ALIENS, which took several years to make, is his second feature film - and this time, it's much, much better. It's a movie in the today almost forgotten sub-genre splatstick, of which the most known entries are EVIL DEAD II, BAD TASTE and BRAINDEAD (aka DEAD/ALIVE). I can't say I've been interested in this for a long time and I didn't think it was funny anymore. But EVIL ALIENS was the funniest movie I saw at a festival in 2006, along with an audience that laughed their asses off.
We're talking bath tubs of blood here! Lots of bodyparts fly in all directions when the heroes attack aliens with gardening tools. The lawnmower scene in BRAINDEAD is nothing compared to this. Sex, violence, hillbilly humor - and very British. This is kind of like LITTLE BRITAIN on LSD, here's even a gay character wearing silver clothes. The movie is shot digitally on a very low budget, but the money has been spent on make-up and effects that are impressive for the budget.
After EVIL ALIENS, West made the inferior PUMPKINHEAD III: ASHES TO ASHES for Sony; his first American production. His latest movie DOG HOUSE opened the summer of 2009, but I havent seen it yet.
