A woman at the young age of 20, and a man, 28 were killed today by a murder-suicide at he Henry Ford Community College.

The two students were in a theater class, but the police could not define the relationship between the individuals, Gregg Brighton, the deputy police chief in Dearborn said. The police have not revealed their identities.

Today, at around 12:40, a shot gun blast was heard. The police were inside of the fine arts building responding to a call about a campus assault at the time. The cops entered room F111 to find two dead bodies.

It is believed that the man fired the first shot at the woman, killing her, and then fired a second, killing himself. Michigan State Police had eight detectives on the scene, four of them being investigators. Few details were released.

The college that normally holds 17,000 students was relatively empty today, because it is a religious holiday. No class was using room F111 during the time of the shooting.

Marjorie Swan is the vice president of the college. She says that she was not sure if Saturday classes would be canceled or not. Services, including counseling, will be offered to the faculty and students she states.

Swan says that their “hearts go out to the family and friends of the young woman who lost her life.”

The officers that responded had to escort some of the students from the building while the school could activate the emergency notification system it has. This allows the school to alert faculty and students by text and email of the school lock down.

Two hours was the time for the lock down. Evergreen Road was filled with cars waiting to pick up the students.

The staff and students handled the situation maturely. There were no signs of panic.
