Musings of a 2 week old Xombie....I earned 4 cents!!!

Musings of a 2 week old Xombie....I earned 4 cents!!!

It's mid-August, and every year at this time, I look back over the summer and wonder where the time went. The new geese are learning to fly in a vee formation (looks more like an "M" when they first start flying over the cornfields), the rosebushes are full of fruit to be harvested next month, I budgeted new tires for the Buick so that I will be prepared for the Minnesota winters...and, teachers return to school in a few short weeks. That would be me...

This summer my goal was to develop some interesting ways of adding to my discretionary income. (Read, a way to finance my daily dose of Caribou soy latte at $4.50 a pop). I've done the mystery shopping thing...it's kind of fun, but by the time you enter your report, tally up the mileage on the Buick (hence, the new tires), it comes to about $2.00 an hour. Not that I'm a snob, or anything like that, but I would think at least minimum wage would be kind of nice. Suddenly, Xomba appears on my search engine, and...I think maybe this is it. The Shangri-la of occupations you can do easily at home...heck, I type 80 wpm. I can read, and I can write. This might work.

So, for the past two weeks, I've been doing quite a bit of typing. We're talking a complete half lunar phase. I mean, the rose hips on the bushes went from green to medium orange in ripeness. I installed a page counter on my articles about a week ago, and that says something like the mid-300s or so of views. Somehow, my adsense account doesn't seem to be real accurate. It says that I have only had 139 page impressions that are credited to my account. That would mean that I must have viewed my own articles roughly 211 times.

The big victory happened 11 days into my Xomba life - I actually got a click. A whole click! Somehow, that translated into 4 cents. Now, I'm not sure if I have to split my 4 cents with Xomba or not...ya know, the 50/50 split. Anyway, I excitedly explained to my husband that I "got a click". He didn't quite understand the gravity of the moment, but did mutter something about how tricky it must be writing HTML tags.

Please let me know when I will be receiving my check. In the meantime, I'm so glad that I'm going back to work at the end of August. I'll harvest my rose hips, pick up an iced soy latte at Caribou each day, have my tires installed at Wal-Mart, and thank the good Lord in heaven that I'll be getting paid soon.

counter - views

the counter keeps jacking up views. I think mine goes up when anyone opens any article at Xomba! Believe I go to the trouble of putting a separate counter with separate url - every time. Only time this counter doesn't act false is when i put images! see the reads on my counter at the widget i have put above, u will get the picture! love you all - the "real" me http://www.xomba.com/beijiong_olympics_competition_schedule http://www.xomba.com/swimming_schedule_beijing_olympics http://www.xomba.com/mens_football_schedule_beijing_olympics http://www.xomba.com/2008_summer_olympics_men

You're Not Paid for How Much You Write

Maybe I explain better at http://is.gd/1fSo but think about it; how did you earn that two cents? (Answer to yourself) And how did that happen? Page counters

I pretty much gave up on the counters, it's a bother to create a new one for every post. I guess eventually Xomba will get them back.

I have done that too

Still have not figured out the counter thing - so finally gave up. Counters and directions - can't get either one right :)

Keep Going

Loved your article. It brings back memories of my very first click too. Nobody could understand why I was so excited about one click. To me it meant that Xomba worked - that someone read my article and clicked on one of the google ads. And google paid me 2 cents. (Can't remember that far back or how much my first click amounted to - but I think that is how much I made on my first click.) As you write more, your income will increase. So keep going.

Page views

It seems that you've installed the same page counter on all your pages... which means that it shows the total of all the page views you've received on all your articles (and on all your comments), not for each article. You might want to install a separate counter on each article, to see which ones get more viewers. Unless you want to track just the total number of page views.

A bow and tip of the hat...

not for money

your article shows u are not really doing it for money (then probably $2 per hr mystery shopping would be better), just shows a love of life. do keep writing here. Whatup and others have explained about the money part. If you have got 200 + impressions on just this posting its not really bad! http://www.xomba.com/nudity_in_1965 love you all - the "real" me http://www.xomba.com/beijiong_olympics_competition_schedule http://www.xomba.com/swimming_schedule_beijing_olympics http://www.xomba.com/mens_football_schedule_beijing_olympics http://www.xomba.com/2008_summer_olympics_men

That's a funny article...

but writing online is quite different from writing offline. You "gotta' understand search engine optimization (SE0). You're a great writer. That's a funny article. I average about a 2 to 3% CTR or higher from my writings on this wonderful site, Xomba. Learn the 'tricks of the trade' and you will do very well with "article marketing." Good Luck!
