Apparently (according to this article) Muslims are being barred from picture at Obama events. Specifically two Muslim women who were at a rally in Detroit Monday.

Photo opp

Sure, they do it if they visit a Muslim center or something. But it seems someone running for president might be leery of having someone in a headscarf in that group of people right behind them at a campaign event, where that person is going to get a large amount of time on TV. Not saying that's right, but it seems to be the reality.

Headscarved Women

I don't know if McCain would or not, however he is a lot like GW Bush, who has gone out of his way to have Muslim women in photo ops with her. If I remember correctly Hillary has as well. - - - Read Bytes & Blurbs by Phloydius - - -

My guess is that

the volunteers feared that if women in headscarves appeared behind Obama, the Republicans would jump on that as evidence that Obama is Muslim, as they've been promoting for months. Definitely a badly handled moment. Would McCain let women in headscarves behind him in a photo op? I doubt it.

True Clarification

Very true, and correct clarification. I should have made that clearer. However, I have to wonder what type of 'atmosphere' the volunteers are in that having Muslim women (in scarfs) is even remotely a problem. - - - Read Bytes & Blurbs by Phloydius - - -

To clarify...

According to the article, the two women "were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate." The campaign has apologized for the incident, which they say was a bad decision made by the volunteers.
