There are rules

during the fast that have to be kept. And yes, you can eat and drink anything during those hours mentioned, but then, after fasting a whole day, it becomes difficult to eat anything too heavy also. The body metabolism will get affected and you may not get good sleep. So, it's very important to eat the "right" food and in the right amount so as to remain healthy, alert and not get dehydrated either. It is quite a challenge. Fruits, vegetables, and lots of liquid in the form of water or juice is recommended to replenish your lost energy. It's very difficult to eat "all" the groups of food in one meal, although it would be desirable.

Fasting

"One may eat and drink at any time during the night "until you can plainly distinguish a white thread from a black thread by the daylight: then keep the fast until night"" I would be doing some heavy late-night snacking during that black-thread time if it had to last me for 15 or 18 hours!

During Ramadan,

Muslims observe fast from sunrise to dusk- abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations. "At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the iftar. In the evening following the iftar it is customary for Muslims to go out visiting family and friends. The fast is resumed the next morning. According to the Holy Quran: One may eat and drink at any time during the night "until you can plainly distinguish a white thread from a black thread by the daylight: then keep the fast until night" You can read more about Ramadan: http://www.holidays.net/ramadan/story.htm

@idlewild/rawnak

Nope, no food, no water. Like Rawnak said, it's a challenge especially in hot/humid weather. I work and then take a nap before dinner. Thanks, Rawnak, for your prayers! Right back at ya... Peace, Mia NW Please visit my recent posts here Get paid to be a xombie! Join us here

30 days

How do you do that and manage to be awake/alert/conscious at work? Do people carbo-load at 4:30 a.m. to have energy for the day? I would be dead to the world if I tried to survive the workday and early evening without any food. Drinking water is allowed, I hope? Good luck... quite a challenge indeed!

I shall pray

that you succeed in your fast. It is indeed very challenging. I find it very difficult to even think about fasting for "one" meal, forget about 30 days. But, I have seen some of my Muslim friends who do this fast and I really admire their will power and total commitment towards this. To top it all, they even go to work full day. How they manage that is beyond my wildest imagination. All this without a drop of water the whole day! And Indian weather can be quite hot and humid at these times, which must be draining a lot of energy. I wish you all the best.

Ramadan

started yesterday for North America. We fasted from 5 AM to about 8 PM last night. It's the most challenging/most rewarding goal I have ever done in my life! Only 29 more days...:) Thanks for your post/video. Peace, Mia NW Please visit my recent posts here Get paid to be a xombie! Join us here
