My 10 Favorite Beatle Songs

My 10 Favorite Beatle Songs

My girlfriend delights in telling me that The Beatles are overrated. It's become a playful sparring routine now, of course. But we clearly don't agree on the subject.

Now I'm far from a Beatles freak, mind you. I certainly can be very critical of some of their work; and especially some of the horrifically abysmal albums all four of them managed to churn out as solo artists. To say they were overrated, however just can't be quantified when you take in to account the musical revolution they initiated. The influence they had on their generation, and the generations to follow, is just immeasurable.

Oh, they were just in the right place at the right time. If it wasn't them, it would have been another group.

Perhaps, but the fact remains it was them -- and the continue to influence artists to this day. Was some of their material overrated> Sure, I'll go along with that. But the best of their music stands the test of time, I believe.

It's hard for me to pick my 10 favorites, but I've given it a try. On another day, I might choose a different selection. I've put them in chronological order to give a good sense of just how dramatically their music changed and evolved over the course of their career.

Twist And Shout (1963)

Can't Buy Me Love (1964)

Day Tripper (1965)

And Your Bird Can Sing (1966)

Strawberry Fields Forever (1967)

A Day In The Life (1967)

The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill (1968)

Revolution (1968)

Get Back (1969)

You Never Give Me Your Money (1969)

Hard List To Make

That is definitely a difficult list to make. Here are my top 10 in no particular order:

Strawberry Fields Forever
Eleanor Rigby
Helter Skelter
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
All My Loving
Norwegian Wood
I Saw Her Standing There
Back In The USSR
Something
Hey Jude

It didn't take terribly long

Just typed my choices in YouTube and grabbed the code.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. Like Nic said, it's not an easy list to make -- well for me, anyway.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun

That's actually one of my favorites from the White Album. Maybe I should have made it top 100. Ahhh crap, that would have made for a scrolling nightmare, though. :(

Not Nick

I'm not Nick. I'm the other half of the Xomba team, my name is Jeremy or I sometimes go as Baldwin.

I will always be on as "Xomba Moderator". Nick will either be on as "nick" or "Xomba Admin".

Whoops!

My apologies, Jeremy. I should have looked more carefully at title. :(

One magical mystery tour...

Yes, the Beatles have influenced music. I use to wonder if the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, would be the longer lasting band, and, although, in different senses, both, have been long lasting in their own right.

The Beatles did, continue to influence music, across all of its disciplines, and the Rolling Stones? They just keep going & going, including the remarkable Keith Richards.

The Stones are top entertainers, always quite a show, and, the Beatles, influencing then, but, they blossomed into four outstanding individual artists, and, all together, its been one magical mystery tour...

I wish I wasn't on dial-up, because I'd like to see your video posts...

I vote for this piece

Dial-up can be a problem with videos

It's possible to watch them on dial-up, but you have to wait quite awhile for them to load, I'm told.

I love the Stones also. Unfortunately, my girlfriend thinks they are overrated, too. Dang, see what I'm up against? :)
