My Apartment part 6

I peeked my head up the stairs and see that really there are not too many of them - maybe a half dozen - before it empties into what looks like the attic and the main sleeping quaters of my noctural buddy. So, I ventured up. I literally had to squeeze myself up; I had to tuen sideways; My head had only about an inch to spare in front and in back; I ripped the front of my shirt on a protruding nail that I didn't see because I couldn't look down. The whole way up I kept thinking "Man I hope I don't get stuck here - that would be a real shitty way to die". Then, near the end I added the thought "I sure hope I don't have to go back down in a hurry."

Once into the "attic" I tried to famliarize myself with the surroundings. First was the scan upwards to find my furry buddy and his friends. The space was not very big - roughly the same size as my apartment so maybe 1100 square feet - so I easily spotted the bats in the far right hand corner up in the rafters. Satisfied that I had located the nest of my intruder I set about trying to find a remedy to having it show up in my apartment again. I turned my attention to the way I had come in.

I was looking for something to throw over the staircase hole to keep these guys from coming to see me again. I immediately noticed a door - the kind you might see in an outdoor basement door. It of course, was laying on its side but the remarkable thing was that there was a hand print on it. The door was tremedously dusty so the hand print showed up easily. What unnerved me a bit was that I didn't see any dust inside the print so it had to have been made recently. Yeah, that freaked me out.

I tried to rationalize it that was probably a maintenance man doing some work up here and had to come thru my apartment to get there and just forgot to shut the door. I knew that wasn't true though bcause the maintance guys always left a note whenever they came inside the apartment when I wasn't there. So, who left this print?
